return to the moon and onwards to mars! nasa’s artemis program

An enlightening session was organized in collaboration with the Department of Physics, SNS, featuring Mr. Mansoor Ahmed, a recent NASA retiree. As the former Associate Director of the Astrophysics Projects Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, he captivated students, faculty, and space enthusiasts with an in-depth talk on NASA’s Artemis Program.

Held at SMME, NUST, the talk provided a detailed overview of one of the most ambitious space exploration initiatives of our time. Mr. Ahmed highlighted our innate drive to explore and aspire for the heavens.

Cosmic chronicles podcast series

We started our very own podcast series “Cosmic Chronicles”, where we dived into the stories of researchers at NUST and also discussed the current projects they are working on. We produced the first three episodes of the series:

  1. Dr. Muhammad Nauman in conversation with Hamdan Ahmad.
  2. Dr. Asad Mumtaz in conversation with Muhammad Furqan.
  3. Dr. Noraiz Tahir in conversation with Bilal Shahid.

All council meeting/orientatiON

NPAS held its orientation at the end of the fall semester, attended by both current council members and former office bearers. The event featured introductory sessions, interactive games, song performances, and, of course, plenty of pizza and cake!

Mr. Rashid Talha delivered a talk, explaining the fundamentals of general relativity, starting from the Newton’s Model of Gravity.

sPACE WEEK 2023
Astronomy night

On October 20th, 2023, NPAS concluded its Space Week celebrations with an Astronomy Night at NUST. In collaboration with the PakAstronomers Society and NUST students, Mr. Haris Jawad and Danyal Ali, we set up multiple telescopes at the SCME Ground. The event also featured student merchandise stalls and food vendors. Over 200 people attended, making the night a great success!

Schools outreach program

As part of our outreach program during Space Week, our team of volunteers visited several educational institutes, and engaged in captivating discussions about the vast universe and inspiring a love for space and astronomy. We visited:

  • Noureen Zindagi Welfare Trust, Ghauri Town, Islamabad.
  • Islamabad College for Boys, G-6/3, Islamabad.
  • Crescent International School G-10/3, Islamabad.
  • Speech Therapy Club and Intervention Center for Learning Disabilities, Korang Town, Islamabad.

Closing ceremony and prize distribution

The prize distribution ceremony for the various competitions held throughout the Space Week was arranged at IESE Hall. The closing ceremony was attended by two distinguished guest speakers:

  • Dr. Farrukh Shahzad as focal person of the PakAstronomers Society.
  • Dr. Zahir Ali as focal person of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the National Space Agency of Pakistan.

A Space Trivia Quiz competition was held, with the topic of “Milestones in study of Space and Astronomy”, at IESE Hall, NUST, where teams of students from NUST participated.

REsearch talks

Three separate talks, by a faculty member and MS Students were held as part of Space Week 2023, giving them an opportunity to discuss about various research problems on the topic of Space Science and Exploration.

  • The Darkest Mystery of the Universe” by Dr. Noraiz Tahir.
  • Storm-Time Ionospheric Variations from GNSS TEC and Swarm Satellites” by Mr. Muhammad Taimur Khan.
  • Exoplanets” by Mr. Javed Iqbal.

A live painting competition was held at SCME Ground, NUST, where the participants were required to paint with the theme “Space and Entrepreneurship”

As part of Space Week 2023, several different online competitions were held, with participation from all over Pakistan. The winners were awarded with certificates and prize money at the closing ceremony held at NUST.

Competition categories included:

  • Generative AI Art Contest.

  • Digital Poster Designing
  • Space Exploration – Story Writing
